Lionsgate released the teaser trailer for their summer action thrill ride, Kill, and it looks every bit as violent, gory, and action-packed as they claim. It’s a wrong place, wrong time situation. Or, a right place, right time, depending on one’s perspective. Amrit (Lakshya), an army commando, finds out his love Tulika (Tanya Maniktala) is in a forced engagement. So, he boards a train to New Delhi to stop it. However, when a group of thugs, led by Fani (Raghav Juyal), torment passengers, Amrit must step up to protect the people.
Written by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat and Ayesha Syad and directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, Kill promises a proper, bloodthirsty, chaotic action film. For now, there are still far too few good action films on trains. There are even fewer on trains for most of their runtime. Some recent ones are Snowpiercer and Train to Busan (highly recommend). Like the latter-mentioned film, the teaser for Kill shows combat in cramped spaces. Arguably, it is even more cramped than the rabid zombie flick.
Additionally, the knife battles feel gritty, up close, and painful. Some viewers might recall Iko Uwais’ stunning action sequences in The Raid: Redemption. After all, jaw-dropping action movies are what summer’s all about, and the Kill teaser raises expectations. On top of that, in the trailer, the lead, Amrit, looks bored with this gang’s attempts, as if he’s seen it all before.
What do you think of the teaser?
Kill releases in theaters on July 4th!
