Beetlejuice Beetlejuice second official trailer drops courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures, which looks promising. While the larger question in both trailers is whether the living and the dead can coexist, this trailer better explains the movie’s plot.
It features more of Jenna Ortega’s (X, The Fallout) character of Astrid. Winona Ryder (Girl, Interrupted, Little Women) returns as Lydia Deetz and Astrid’s mother, but they are not close. After all, her mom’s name on her phone is “Alleged Mom.” Additionally, her school life consists of girls bullying her. After all, her mother lives in the—now infamous—”house on the hill.”
Astrid does not believe in the paranormal. But something occurs that puts her in the clutches of some spectral beings in the afterlife. So, Lydia teams up with the foe she defeated as a child, Beetlejuice. The talented Michael Keaton (Spotlight, Knox Goes Away) reprises his role, setting the juice loose. So, the pair must team up to rescue Astrid. Making it three generations of Deetz women, Lydia’s mother, Delia, played by Catherine O’Hara (Argylle, Elemental), also returns.
Directed by Tim Burton, the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice second trailer features hilarious moments, like Beetlejuice’s hands catching fire after swearing on his dead mother’s soul. That kind of comedy may attract moviegoers. While many decades-late sequels fail to deliver the mix of nostalgia with present-day humor and understanding, it’s not impossible. The second trailer does more than the first. Still, audiences must wait until the flick hits theaters to see what’s shaking with the “ghost with the most” and this random afterlife. Still, one looming question I hope they answer is what happened to Adam and Barbara, who haunted the grounds.
What do you think of the second trailer? Does it make you more excited for the sequel?
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice releases in theaters on September 9.
