While it feels sudden, The Geek Ex-Hitman 3 is a bright, hopeful conclusion to a story about pursuing joy and love, no matter what or where one finds it.
The Geek Ex-Hitman 3 gives Marco some additional much-desired backstory. Even with the darker moments, the series maintains such a comical story that it’s impossible not to smile or laugh wholeheartedly. Anime and manga fans understand how fun it is to talk about a series and favorite character. While not entirely on the level of making a hitman retire from killing, The Geek Ex-Hitman 3 shows how love for the same show or character can bring people together and is a page-turning conclusion to the series.
Created by Ko-dai, translated by Giuseppe di Martino, and lettered by Erin Hickman, the volume begins in the past with child Marco living with hitman Bernardo. Bernardo does not want Marco following in his killer-for-hire footsteps. Unfortunately, Marco’s admiration means he wants to be like Bernardo, which creates a problem similar to the sister assassins in So Close. The Yen Press manga includes eight chapters and extras to enjoy as this tale of the otaku hitman winds to a glorious close.
The Geek Ex-Hitman 3 Keeps It Funny in the Finale
While the initial story of Marco’s childhood starts worrisome, the transition to otaku who abandons the hitman life is abrupt to the point of hilarity. But that’s synchronicity. Sometimes, things show up at the exact time needed as a sign of what path to take. From there, it’s laughs, misunderstandings, and more laughs till the climax. First, there’s the limited cafe where he, Andre, and Viviana keep ordering drinks to get new coasters from their anime, hoping they’ll get the ones with their faves. The Geek Ex-Hitman 3 highlights the obsession but also how sometimes a deep love for something can save.
For those wondering about Mei, she makes an appearance, too. She again tries to get close to Marco. But alas, with misunderstandings and Viviana in the wings, it won’t go her way. The final volume even includes some hilarious online gameplay between the crew as they struggle to take down a monster. The bit with Marco’s cat, Yakuza, wrecking everything brings to mind The Way of the Househusband. The Geek Ex-Hitman 3 wants to leave readers off on a joyous note.
It’s About Family
If anything, the series’ overarching theme is finding one’s tribe. The found family through shared joys who support each other is what matters here. Marco unexpectedly found that. It wasn’t only the friends he made in Japan but also Viviana, Andre, and Gregorio. As a family, they want Marco to live his life and be happy. That adds a heartwarming quality to the end of the series and speaks to the importance of family and what constitutes a family. It is not about blood relations.
The Geek Ex-Hitman 3 ends a series that already feels gone too soon. There’s so much more to explore in this world, including Bernardo. Also, I’d love to know whether Marco, Viviana, and Andre can make another manga for the next convention. It doesn’t feel over, but many manga and anime do not tie everything up. While it feels sudden, The Geek Ex-Hitman 3 is a bright, hopeful conclusion to a story about pursuing joy and love, no matter what or where one finds it.
