The Gorge trailer flew under the radar, considering its cast. Any fan of distant relationships—a whole gorge divides these lovebirds—and creature features must ensure it’s on their radar. So what do you get when you add Anya Taylor-Joy (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, The Menu), Miles Teller (Top Gun: Maverick, Whiplash), horror legend Sigourney Weaver (Alien, The Cabin in the Woods), a Romeo and Juliet divide, and a rumble below? Who knows. But it sounds like a ton of fun and frights.
Scott Derrickson, director of The Black Phone and Sinister, is back in the driver’s seat, directing this feature with writer Zach Dean (Fast X, The Tomorrow War) penning the script. The Gorge trailer shows Anya Taylor-Joy as Drasa and Miles Teller as Levi—you see their names cutely displayed on snowmen. Both are operatives for their respective countries tasked with staying in a tower on opposite sides of the gorge. One of the most chilling parts is when Levi learns his job is to prevent things inside it from coming out.
But of course, something goes awry and although ordered not to communicate with the other side, a connection forms. There are even adorable clips of the two playing chess—shades of the Dawn of the Dead remake. So, when Levi winds up in the fog-filled ravine, Drasa jumps in to aid him. Thus, it becomes a fight for survival as the pair prepare to fight to escape.
Plus, it builds up the isolation and relationship between the two before dropping audiences into danger. Given its cast and who’s directing, The Gorge trailer showcases an exciting melding of romance and action for lovebirds who want a bit more bite to the Valentine’s Day celebrations.
