The Superman trailer, James Gunn’s iteration of the iconic red-caped superhero, dropped, and it looks promising with a grand scope, various foes, and stunning landscapes. James Gunn’s visionary take on the DC studio hero casts a new actor for the role, and the rest of the cast is shaping up to bring what looks to be a promising film to the silver screen.
Directed by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad) and written by Gunn, based on the creation by Joe Schuster and Jerry Siegel, the movie follows the hero reconciling where he’s from with growing up on Earth. David Corenswet (Pearl, Twisters) plays Superman and his alter ego Clark Kent. Also among the cast is Isabela Merced (Alien: Romulus, Instant Family) as Kendra Saunders, a.k.a. Hawkgirl.
Next is Frank Grillo (Werewolves, The Purge: Anarchy) as Rick Flagg Sr. Edi Gathegi (Twilight) portrays Michael Holt or Mr. Terrific. We might see justice for how they did his Darwin character in X-Men: First Class. For the villain, the film has Nicholas Hoult (Nosferatu, Juror #2), playing Lex Luthor.
In the Superman trailer, it’s more of an emotional, action-packed trailer. But it starts with a battered Superman landing in an icy wasteland. Audiences also get a look at this version’s Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, House of Cards). The trailer’s vast scope and epic score heralds a triumphant return of the kryptonite-averse hero. Given Gunn’s track record with superheroes and the Superman trailer, audiences can remain optimistic that the film will not disappoint.
