To Be Hero X is an unforgettable, shocking visual and thematic combo that hooks you immediately.

To Be Hero X is a promising blend of other series, yet it stands alone in its hero world. The first episode is an outstanding introduction to the animation style, characters, and world. Plus, it mirrors ours in many aspects. So, it’s comedic pinches with dramatic and shocking moments ensure the emotional gamut is in the first episode. With a shocking opening that only The Penguin rivaled, To Be Hero X leaves its plans unknown but ensures viewers enjoy the chaotic ride.

Created by Haoling Li (Link ClickTo Be Heroine), the anime is a frenzied time, mirroring other series and industry hell in its representation of the precariousness of heroes. The original story follows Lin Ling, a young man in the advertising industry. But when he unveils his new video for Nice, a popular hero, emphasizing how anyone can become a hero, it does not go well. Now, on the roof of the building and out of a job, Lin Lin rants toward an advertisement billboard of Nice when the hero himself floats down. This is where all hell breaks loose.

To Be Hero X Is Exceptional and Unpredictable Storytelling

There are easy comparisons to other shows. Some, like The Boys, feel more obvious with the commercialization of heroes. Others also partially resonate with this series. After all, heroes are not a test-tube-acquired skill. Instead, it’s innate but also dependent on how people view the hero. So, that and the danger of one misstep wreaking havoc is similar to Oshi No Ko. It’s the fantastical version of what that series captures realistically.

“Trust Value” is what gives heroes strength, creating physical changes in their bodies. In that way, it resembles Chainsaw Man as how people feel strengthens heroes. However, negative emotions like fear also feed villains. So there’s familiarity with previous shows, but thanks to its execution and differences, To Be Hero X separates itself enough to be an unforgettable anime series.

Blend of Animation Styles

The mix of animation is eye-catching, increasing the anime’s appeal. It brings to mind Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, as animation styles, including 2D and 3D, interweave through scenes. That, alongside the bright array of colors with the darker themes, maintains a balanced contrast. Any show that reminds me of one of the best movies of 2023 and the best animated film has my attention and excitement.

Starts and Ends With Jaw-Dropping Surprises

It’s impossible to guess where the story goes in To Be Hero X. Still, it could wind up Squid Game for heroes. Even it’s trailer does not explain what happens in the first episode. So, it’s one of the few shows that stump viewers in a while. Even Oshi No Ko, which shifted through multiple genres of anime from isekai to slice-of-life, told viewers what the show would be by the end of the first episode. However here, all that’s clear is that the anime loves making us shriek in shock.

To Be Hero X is an unforgettable, shocking visual and thematic combo that hooks you immediately. Also, it’s a darker show in a bright industry, and there is no clue what’s to come. Plus, it’s a unique world that makes people’s positive opinions power heroes. It’s like an animated Black Mirror episode. To Be Hero X might be the top new series for the 2025 spring anime season.
