From, Season 4, Episode 1 Is a Surprising Watch

From Season 4, Episode 1 still of Boyd, played by Harold Perrineau, holding Kenny, played by Ricky He, in the cave.

From, Season 4, Episode 1 is a satisfying episode with shocks, questions, and a lot of rollover drama from last season.

From, Season 4, Episode 1 gets right to it, opting not to leave viewers hanging as they await the resolution of last season’s horrific finale. While there is still the continued frustration with folks not communicating, there are so many surprises, some of which leave you screaming at the screen. And it starts with the first episode. The tagline “Knowledge comes with a cost” heightens the fear for our favorite characters, as this arc seems to have many possibilities, as we consider not only who pays the toll, but who doles it out. From, Season 4, Episode 1 is a satisfying episode with shocks, questions, and a lot of rollover drama from last season.

Created by John Griffin (Crater), the series follows a group of townsfolk trapped in a town where unexplained phenomena and deadly threats occur. It stars Harold Perrineau (The Best Man: The Final ChaptersClaws) as Boyd, the sheriff, and a collection of eclectic characters navigating survival and pondering escape. The first season we’re introduced to the town is when we encounter the ritualistic method of trapping new arrivals with a family of four. Now, as an audience, we know the patriarch, Jim, played by Eion Bailey (Once Upon a TimeThe Stand), died at the hands of the yellow man. The show doesn’t waste any time.

Between Jim’s death and Sara, played by Avery Konrad (Honor Society, Broil), taking Elgin’s (Nathan D. Simmons, Washington Black, Alone Together) eye, I don’t know which I was more excited to go back to. Fortunately, the series chose for me, focusing on Jim’s death and the creepy tall man in yellow. That small interaction between him, Jim, and Julie, played by Hannah Cheramy (Van HelsingUnder Wraps), clues viewers in to a few things. He arrives as a kind of next phase for the town.

An underlying question is whether this person shows up when townsfolk are too close to answers, or when it’s time to wrap it up. Based on the small interaction between Julie and the man, it seems she’s met him previously while storywalking through time to save her father. The next question is, when will everyone learn what happened to Jim? From, Season 4, Episode 1 keeps viewers tense and stressed.

The Popular Lack of Communication Is Still Here

One of the most frustrating aspects of the series is the lack of sharing information. Every interaction is like pulling teeth, as people attempt to shrug off answering questions. In a town where so many fantastical threats—from monsters to invisible bugs—are all possible, it’s frustrating to witness people still resist communicating. After all, in this town, you never know who else has seen the same thing, or whether the information could help protect everyone. So, in that regard, From, Season 4, Episode 1 keeps up its traditional and annoying “let’s avoid talking.”

So much happens in From, Season 4, Episode 1, and the end of the episode will definitely leave viewers screaming at the screen. There is no shortage of surprises. But at its core, what makes the show so engrossing is the people, with Boyd at its heart. While the show’s fantastical experiences are unlikely, the responses from the people are not.

That’s what makes the show compelling—it showcases the fickleness, inspirational, and self-destructive nature of the human condition caught in circumstances it cannot control. From, Season 4, Episode 1 has a fierce, no-holds-barred start that makes it impossible not to watch as this season looks less like one of discovery and more like an unraveling of what keeps folks together.
