Solo Leveling 9 maintains high-octane excitement and action while adding pieces to the puzzle.

Solo Leveling 9 has epic battles as Jinwoo returns to the double dungeon where everything began. Aside from shocking action and politics and understanding there’s still a gap between S-rank hunters, the volume gives some answers about the system and Jinwoo’s role. However, Jinwoo is not easy to manipulate, regardless of the past. Solo Leveling 9 maintains high-octane excitement and action while adding pieces to the puzzle.

The original story is by Chugong, the art by Dubu (Redice Studio), and the adaptation is by H-goon. The Yen Press comic, translated by Hye Young Im, rewritten by J. Torres, and lettered by Abigail Blackman, starts with a high-ranking guild arriving in Japan alongside their S-rank hunters. Everything is ratcheting up to a big reveal. But even if the system prizes Jinwoo’s collaboration, he is not a pushover. Jinwoo’s powers seem endless, but who’s to say what he becomes by the end of the series.

Solo Leveling 9 Builds Tension and Danger

Threats from gates are neverending. However, high-level gates opening in a major metropolitan area spells immense danger. After all, not all the citizens in these areas are skilled hunters. So, the bloodshed is incalculable. And since hunting is a business, guilds are making moves for power. Meanwhile, Jinwoo is back where it all began. The dungeon where Jinwoo suffered and became the player is back with different threats and rules. Solo Leveling 9 brings readers one step closer, alongside Jinwoo, to the answers about the gates and Jinwoo.

A Tricky But Exciting Battle

The statue with the commandments plans to test Jinwoo. In exchange, if Jinwoo wins, he’ll reveal who Jinwoo is. But to make the dungeon extra challenging, Jinwoo cannot call forth his minions, use the item shop, or any recovery conditions from quests. It’s just his skills and his inventory. But it doesn’t matter because Jinwoo seems angry, and his physical combat abilities get the job done. The full-color illustrations and art style in Solo Leveling 9 capture the ease and violence as Jinwoo dispenses with the colossal stone statues.

Naturally, the commandment statue—the system’s architect—does not intend to let Jinwoo off that easily. However, Jinwoo’s abilities, fortunately, continue expanding as the fight progresses and the threats increase. Culminating in a final battle between the architect and Jinwoo, the stakes are high. He must defeat the enemy in ten minutes, or his heart stops. The damn architect reminds me of the person Spike saw in Buffy The Vampire Slayer to get his soul back. They don’t make the end clear. So it’s foes on top of foes on top of foes in Solo Leveling 9.

Solo Leveling 9 has tons of action while revealing the reawakened entity within Jinwoo. Although the architect didn’t want him, he built a system that chose him all the same. The wrench in the architect’s plans is terrific because he’s a bully, looking down on humans. A fight between silver soldiers and magical beasts seems to resurrect in the human world. So, it’s fortunate they have Jinwoo Sung. But the mystery surrounding why the system chose him is far from over. Solo Leveling 9 ups the action and excitement for what’s to come while throwing in some funny moments.
