The You, Me & Tuscany trailer looks like a fun escape for audiences into romantic comedies. With a star cast, the trailer teases laughs and heat between the love interests. Plus, it centers a Black couple in the romantic comedy, something rare in this current climate. It does not look to break new ground. But the You, Me & Tuscany trailer looks sweet and hilarious.
Kat Coiro (The Spiderwick Chronicles, Girls5eva) directs with Kristen Engle and Ryan Engle (Beast, Rampage) penning the script. The synopsis says that an Italian chef and a British lawyer fall in love at a destination wedding. But a lot more happens in the trailer. Anna, played by Halle Bailey (The Little Mermaid, The Color Purple), winds up in a comedic drama akin to While You Were Sleeping or Mrs. Winterbourne. After chatting with Matteo, played by Lorenzo de Moor (Another Simple Favor, The Legend Hunters), about his empty villa in Tuscany, she decides to head to Italy and secretly crash there for a night.
You, Me & Tuscany Trailer Has Love, Lies, and Laughs
Unfortunately, Matteo’s mother, Gabriela, played by Isabella Ferrari (Parthenope, Trust), shows up and takes Anna for his fiancée. Now playing a part, the drama increases when sparks fly with his cousin, Michael, played by Regé-Jean Page (Black Bag, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves).
But the only concern is that oftentimes when the writers and directors are white, they struggle to capture Black stories. Usually, it feels like a white story with a Black cast. Plus, their combined filmography does not inspire hope. Still, the You, Me & Tuscany trailer makes the film look promising with a must-see cast.
