The Gachiakuta Trailer Shows Obsession With Revenge

Gachiakuta trailer still of Rudo's red eye narrowed angrily.

The Gachiakuta trailer is out. It’s one of the most-anticipated manga series to get an anime adaptation. Now, Crunchyroll acquired the shonen manga written and illustrated by Kei Urana and graffiti artist Hideyoshi Andou. The action manga began in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine in February 2022. But soon the series gained traction thanks to its artistic realism and tackling class issues. The manga also won the Global Special Prize in the Comics category of the Next Manga Awards in the same year.

Studio Bones Film (My Hero AcademiaFullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) produces the upcoming anime. In addition, first-time series director Fumihiko Suganuma (Train to the End of the World) helms the series. To add to the excitement, Hiroshi Seko (DAN DA DANJujutsu Kaisen) writes the series. Now, the Gachiakuta trailer looks gritty and bloody. The series follows a boy, Rudo—voiced by Aoi Ichikawa (Blue LockSword Art Online Alternative: Gale Gun Online)—living in a floating city. However, after being framed for a murder he didn’t commit, Rudo gets exiled to a junkyard area. But he’s not going quietly.

So, Rudo vows vengeance against those who wronged him. But first, he must master new powers and team up with the Cleaners who battle the various monsters in the Pit. One of the Cleaners is Enjin, voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi (The Apothecary DiariesBeyblade X), who we see in the trailer. The Gachiakuta trailer hints at perceptions of evil or “filth.” Who do people label “filthy” versus who is “filthy.” Plus, some scenes appear cultlike, like the trash purges all evil. But the animation looks ferocious, and the action sequences are hypnotic. Given the premise and trailer, it has the potential to be a top-tier anime series when it airs this summer on Crunchyroll.

What do you think of the Gachiakuta trailer? What summer anime are you most excited for?

Gachiakuta releases on Crunchyroll in July 2025.
