The 100-Million-Year Button 5 builds up some laughs, ecchi moments, and fights while still teasing the larger mystery of Allen’s soul attire’s strength.

The 100-Million-Year Button 5 begins with powerful Allen and vibrant Lia returning to her family home. Of course, it’s not so simple, given her father, King Gris, believes Allen slipped some honeyed poison into Lia’s ears. In fact, everyone Allen meets in the kingdom of Vesteria despises him on sight. But this leads to some epic battles as Allen fights to their happy, exciting sword-fighting days at school. The 100-Million-Year Button 5 builds up some laughs, ecchi moments, and fights while still teasing the larger mystery of Allen’s soul attire’s strength.

With an original story by Syuichi Tsukishima, art by Yutaro Shido, character design by Mokyu, translation by Daniel Luke Hutton, and lettering by Arbash Mughal, The 100-Million-Year Button 5 drives home the closeness between Allen and Lia. While their initial meeting was more adversarial, their relationship blossomed. It soon became a deep affection for each other in the Yen Press manga. Hence, when Lia’s father threatens to remove her from the school unless Allen defeats three opponents of King Gris’s choosing, Allen steps up. Despite the tense atmosphere, the series maintains plenty of laughs for readers, if not for Allen.

The 100-Million-Year Button 5 Has Allen in Enemy Territory

Well, not quite enemy. However, most people around the castle know the claim that the devious Allen tricked Lia. So, at the outset, every guard at the castle shoots him death glares. Whatever Claude relayed to the king, everyone thinks Allen’s a smooth talker who lured Lia into a relationship. Fortunately, the king does not know they live together as master and slave after Lia made that bet with Allen and lost. Witnessing Allen’s discomfort while everyone gazes adoringly at Lia adds a lot of lighthearted laughs. That is, until a particular mishap in The 100-Million-Year Button 5 increases tension between Allen and Claude.

Not only did Allen have the assumption that Claude was a man, but due to Claude’s demands, he could not leave his room unattended. So, he knocks on Claude’s door, then enters thinking it’s just a guy’s room, only to see Claude exit the bathroom in her birthday suit. While exaggerated, everyone can recall a mortifying experience due to misunderstanding or clumsiness.

So, ecchi fans get some laughs when they see this comedic setting. Not to mention, Allen does not realize Claude is one of his opponents the next day. And he’s just given her motivation to crank up the violence. Hence, the fight begins.

Allen’s Soul Attire Is a Force

Although there is no breakdown of who or what Allen’s soul attire is, they give readers an understanding of its power in The 100-Million-Year Button 5. After all, Lia’s father shifts focus, hoping to win Allen to his side after a grudging Claude lays down the power level she felt from Allen. So, now Allen’s on Lia’s father’s radar, the head of the school is still unknown, as is Allen’s family and how that might connect back to his soul attire.

The 100-Million-Year Button 5 balances the action and comedy, ensuring readers remain engrossed with every page. While one of the trio is absent from this volume, the affection between Lia and Allen is sweet, and the open animosity from everyone at the castle is hilarious. Lia and Allen appear to be end game, but there is still a long way to go and plenty of more awkward situations and epic battles to enjoy. Thanks to the established affection for Allen and Lia, The 100-Million-Year Button 5 pushes their relationship and the story forward with a perfectly paced volume.
