Anime NYC sponsor NIUHI showed a new platform from Japan looking to change the way people access and engage with manga and comics. NIUHI includes a diverse range of manga and comics, emphasizing support for more independent and obscure creators. With the goal and innovative ways to enjoy, the NIUHI app is worth checking out. While it’s in beta, there is still a lot to enjoy on its site.

It immediately has a section labeled “Global Favorites.” They also include sections according to language, what’s new, and genres. So readers can narrow down their search to find their next binge-worthy series. Sign up is easy and hassle-free. Some stories are free, while others you have to buy; many have a preview option to make that decision easier.

NIUHI Has Diverse Ways to Engage

You can also buy, sell, and translate. The stories run the gamut on the site, from a disturbing cover of a creepy, bandaged individual for the comic Invasive #1 to the isekai eerie, cute cover of Cult of the Lamb No. 1 to the science fiction shonen Moon Ciders. There is a lot to enjoy and engage with as the stories vary in language, artistic style, and genre.

The website has another amazing feature when reading stories—the immediate translation while immersing in the tale. Readers can click on the dialogue bubbles, and it changes to another language. Ideal for people trying to learn a new language, as it allows you to move back and forth. So, if you’re trying to learn hiragana, katakana, and kanji, this site is ideal for moving easily between those and English. There is also a hint of joy when you understand before clicking on the English translation.

Until the NIUHI app comes later onto phones, it’s easy to enjoy on the website on your phone. The translation bubble still works, although it’s not available for all at this time. Overall, it will be interesting to see where this app heads and what diverse creators we get to enjoy some quality artwork.
